Sometimes, it can be a real struggle to get started on a task, no matter how much we actually want to do it. Even if we understand that it’s ADHD affecting us, how can we explain this in a tangible way to others without them thinking we’re just making excuses?
During an argument with my then-partner in the kitchen, I came up with the metaphor of “buttons” as ADHD motivation currency - or rather, as a way to explain executive dysfunction through a lack thereof.
This poster explains:
- Why buttons sometimes seem not to exist
- Why buttons can unreliably appear or disappear
- How to get buttons
- Why it’s not a lack of willpower
- How our loved ones can support us
Perfect for ADHD Awareness Month, or simply as a daily reminder that there’s no reason to feel ashamed when you have trouble getting started.
